Digital Classroom

Dear Family and Friends,
It is hard for us to imagine life without computers, tablets, or phones. But, even for a country like India that is known for its informatics professionals and solutions, 90% of households with children do not have access to these digital tools. As a result, many children born into poverty miss out on opportunities to benefit from technology by accessing information, learning valuable computer skills, and communicating with others. I would like to dedicate my performance to support an organization called the Sri Jayendra School in my ancestral hometown in Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu, India, that has made it their mission to improve the educational, social, and economic opportunities for disadvantaged students and their families. I would like to help them bridge the digital divide for their children by providing them with a digital classroom consisting of chromebooks, internet connection, online educational curriculums, and a Digital Interactive Board. In lieu of gifts, I request you to please support this noble cause by donating. Every dollar is another step towards providing these children with an opportunity to broaden their horizons and achieve their dreams.
Thank You,
Sahana Rajesh

Sri Jai Sankara Educational Trust, Sankarnagar, was registered as a Public Charitable Trust in the year 1991 with broad Educational, Cultural, Social and Charitable objectives. The Trust has been in the service of education for the past 30 years and has been extending yeomen services in the field of education. For details visit: http://tnfusa.org/tirunelveli-digital-classroom/
Projects run by the trust:
1. Sri Jayendra School, Sankarnagar
2. Gita Krishnamurthy Vidyala, Sankarnagar - A free primary school for very poor children
3. Rehabilitation home for deprived and homeless children.
Sri Jayendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School was started in a small way with three classes and 55 students, in a small rented building in 1981by Mrs.Usha Raman, and Mrs. Nirmal Ramarathinam, at Sankarnagar, a small settlement in South India, because there was no school to which Mrs. Usha Raman could send her own children to when they were of nursery school age. Today the school has 3000 students in a beautiful campus with good facilities and infrastructure. The school is run with a zeal to educate rural children who are otherwise deprived of good education. Most of the students studying in the school hail from economically and socially backward sections of the society. With the help of aid received from organizations and individuals both in India and abroad the school provides excellent education, and has been able to compete academically with some of the best schools in the state.
The proposed digital classroom, with facilities to cater to 40 students at a time, would serve 20 classes during the course of the week @ 2 hours per class. The two hours that children spend in this classroom will be exposed to online learning and teaching through sites like Khan Academy, Vedantu, and WizIQ NextGen, with translation to the local language available as needed. The classroom will be equipped with a Digital Interactive Board with 3D Educomp Stem Curriculum Software, 40 Laptops, and an Internet facility with broadband bandwidth of 40MPBs.
The cost of setting up a digital classroom with the above facilities will be approximately $13,000.
The target for this campaign is $6500 with matching funds from sponsors for an equal amount.
